Victorian Kitchen & Bath Remodel

If you’ve ever lived in a Victorian home, you know that they were never originally designed for fun in the kitchen or outdoor living. Built in the era of plentiful and cheap kitchen help and before the era of shorts and sneakers in the back yard, these homes have a formal charm but leave something to be desired by the modern family.

In this project, Bob helps a couple take their Queen Anne Victorian on the bucolic marshes of Rowley, Massachusetts, into the new millennium with a minimum of fuss. The walls come down as the formal dining room and kitchen become one, and new French doors open onto a beautiful cedar deck that expands the home’s living space enormously, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the back yard they’ve worked so hard to landscape. The powder room is reconfigured to make room for a useful mud room space, and beautiful semi-custom cabinets and appliances make the kitchen/dining room a welcoming, light-filled space for entertaining.

Through all these adaptations to modern lifestyle, the history of the house is respected. Architectural details like stained glass sash, metal roof, and trim are either preserved or reproduced to maintain the classic character of the home.
